Review:

I am on chapter 3, and so far, it is very good. I really like how the writing flows and how it almost feels like he is talking to you. I think later on in the book, it will handle tough topics. So far, there have been many mentions of racism and violence, but later on, I think it will be more prominent in the book. I can’t stop thinking about how he died less than half a year after talking to this reporter. It is just crazy to think that this book could not have been published. It is clear it will be one of those hard books that will take me a little while to get through. I am looking forward to seeing where this book goes and how the story progresses. I am now on chapter 7; it is very good. All the talk about prostitution was a little weird, but I really think he did a good job making the story come to life. I just finished chapter 13, and it is right in the middle of Islam Elijah Muhammad’s twisted teachings. For some reason, it reminds me of the way Hitler prayed on Germany and caused hate during the Holocaust. I think this is a fascinating book, and it really does a good job showing what it was like to be in his shoes. This book is really a roller coaster of emotions. I think it gives a compelling message of community and rising against prejudice. I am on chapter 17, and he has just started his own religious organization fighting against racism. He is now going to Mecca to find the roots of his religion. This is a very moving book, and I am interested to see what happens next. I am only going to say a little more about this book. It was such an inspiring story, and I think it really put a lot of the struggles of African Americans into context. I don’t think I should be rating this because it is non-fiction, and I do not share his experiences. From a writing standpoint, it was excellent. It kept me engaged, and I did not notice any wholes in the story. Overall this was a wonderful book, and it changed the way I look at the civil rights movement.

Trigger Warnings:
racism, violence, crime, and some sexual references

Synopsis From Book:

Through a life of passion and struggle, Malcolm X became one of the most influential figures of the 20th Century. In this riveting account, he tells of his journey from a prison cell to Mecca, describing his transition from hoodlum to Muslim minister. Here, the man who called himself "the angriest Black man in America" relates how his conversion to true Islam helped him confront his rage and recognize the brotherhood of all mankind. An established classic of modern America, "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" was hailed by the New York Times as "Extraordinary. A brilliant, painful, important book." Still extraordinary, still important, this electrifying story has transformed Malcom X's life into his legacy. The strength of his words, the power of his ideas continue to resonate more than a generation after they first appeared.
