Review:

his was surprisingly not a bad book. It was our book for book club this month. I really liked stepping out of my comfort zone and reading something a little different. I have never read a book with a vampire romance, and I am not sure if I love that part of it. That is why I took away half a heart. I really liked the other things like the witches, werewolves, and dragons. I also really liked the underlying mystery. The villain was kind of obvious, but I was surprised in many parts of the book. The love was charming, and the whole mating thing was interesting. I really liked Jaxon’s perspective at the end because it made the story more 3D. Overall a pretty good book, and I might read the second one.

Trigger Warnings:
Nonconsensual drugging, Graphic blood & gore depiction, Blood-drinking, Death from exsanguination, Dead bodies mentioned, Death of a parent in a car accident recounted, Gun violence, Knife violence & stabbing, Strangulation, Hanging mentioned and Kidnapping

Synopsis From Book:

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me. Which could spell death for us all. Because Jaxon walled himself off for a reason. And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally—as the bait.
