Review:

Simon did not get his magic back! I find this second book even more upsetting than the ending of the first one. Not only are his powers gone (which makes for a boring character), but Simon and baz’s relationship is all messed up. I still like Penelope because she is relatable, but I did not like the entire plot for this book. I think it lost some of its fun when Simon lost his powers. Also, why are his wings blue on the cover but red inside!! So many things wrong with this book, and overall I was disappointed. I don’t think I would reread this, mainly because it was bad. But I think I would read the third one to see if it could redeem itself.

Trigger Warnings:
Alcohol (possible alcoholism), Animal death, Blood, Cheating (mentioned/suspected), Depression, Guns, gunshots, gunshot wounds, Kidnapping, Occult

Synopsis From Book:

The story is supposed to be over. Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after… So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch? What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light… That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West. They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place…
