Review:

You know that feeling when you look at a puppy; I feel like that every time I read this book. It has such a cute ending, and it is so much fun. I live the brujos and brujas. Martina is such a good side character, but she is also so defined. Julian is so funny, and I love all of his personality. I don’t know how they write every character in detail but keep them in their individual roles. Yadriel is such an excellent main character, and I love how they hit all of the challenging subjects so well. My favorite part is probably the romance because it is so cute but not too upbeat, like Julian is literally dead. But the end makes all the waiting so worth it. At least for me, the villain was very hard to spot, and it was a cool twist. This is one of my favorite books of all time, and I will definitely be reading it again.

Trigger Warnings:
Blood magic (referenced), Character abuse (off-page), Deadnaming of a trans character, Death (parental), Gender dysphoria, Homophobia, Misgendering of a trans character, Transphobia

Synopsis From Book:

Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can’t get rid of him. When his traditional Latinx family has problems accepting his gender, Yadriel becomes determined to prove himself a real brujo. With the help of his cousin and best friend Maritza, he performs the ritual himself, and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free. However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school’s resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. He’s determined to find out what happened and tie up some loose ends before he leaves. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian, so that they can both get what they want. But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave.
