Review:

Ok, so you know those hallmark movies that it’s almost too cringey to stop watching. Yeah, this is a hallmark book. I didn’t realize that this author wrote one of my favorite YA books and had written so many books. I thought this book was a cute story but not perfect. The enemies to lovers could have been a little more hashed out, and if you are making the main character a witch/wizard, you have to make them super powerful. I was missing the growth in her powers. It sort of just seemed like one day she woke up and was suddenly good at magic. This book had many plot holes, which made it a little unsatisfying to read. The characters were cute, but the cover didn’t match their description, which was really annoying. I actually thought this book would be worst than it actually was, so that’s great. I feel like some of these books of the month ones are just going over my head because of how adult they are. I might look into a different subscription service instead. The characters were interesting but a little flat, and I feel like the author should have just stocked with the romance and gotten rid of the magic because it doesn’t seem like her sting suit. This book was a good book but not great.

Synopsis From Book:

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two. That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all. Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.
