Review:

This was one of the books on my 100 book list. I don’t know; it was not my favorite. I did not feel very connected to the character, and some parts were kind of dull. I think the concept was interesting, but I don’t think it aged well. It defines got better throughout the book. I am still not sure what happened to Roger. Did he die? And it was weird that she thought her dad was her uncle. I thought it was more of a children’s book, but it got pretty dark. Also, why were her parents making out at the end of the book so weird? I don’t know how to pronounce the pet things, but I think that was my favorite part.

Trigger Warnings:
Absent parents, Child abuse, and Emotional abuse

Synopsis From Book:

Lyra is rushing to the cold, far North, where witch clans and armored bears rule. North, where the Gobblers take the children they steal--including her friend Roger. North, where her fearsome uncle Asriel is trying to build a bridge to a parallel world. Can one small girl make a difference in such great and terrible endeavors? This is Lyra: a savage, a schemer, a liar, and as fierce and true a champion as Roger or Asriel could want--but what Lyra doesn't know is that to help one of them will be to betray the other.
